There are a lot of terms that could be used to describe Brendan Flaherty as an artist. Geek, nerd, and weirdo are just a few that he would use to describe himself. He fell in love with photography when he realized he could make it whatever he wanted it to be. Molding and shaping images into abstraction. He doesn’t just stop with manipulation, however. His works live as a combination of analog and digital. Removing boundaries and challenging what can be considered art. This is done consciously but a lot of the time is a freak accident that he decides to roll with. In his photo practice, Brendan loves to capture the strange, beautiful, ugly, unknown, and mundane. However where he finds the most joy is after taking the photos, looking at the potential of everything he has captured. Wondering what they would look like after he strips them out of the context of reality. Moving imagery to a state of uncanny or unrecognizability is where he finds his stride.
